The need
In snack production, raw materials arrive with the season but the product sits on shelves all year. When potatoes, oil, seasoning and packaging film coming in, the amounts used in production and the cartons packed and shipped were not tied together, it was hard to say what was made from which lot or how much was actually lost in a shift. The line was fast; paper was slow.
The solution
Raw material and packaging receipts, issues to production and finished-goods receipts are done on handhelds with Nitrogen PDA. Work orders, per-line output and scrap are entered in Nitrogen UTS. Packed product is received into stock and shipped against orders, with every step posted to Mikro at the same time.
The results
- Which production run each raw material went into is on record
- Per-line output and scrap are visible before the shift ends
- Warehouse and production share the same stock data
